Lord, what you call compassion, others call weakness. What you call conviction, others call dissidence. What you call love, others call mixing with sinners. We pray that we too might be found weak, dissident, and in bad company, especially if it means we are closer to you. Amen. #commonprayer #redefine

O Lord whose patience is beyond comprehension, we pray that you may never tire of helping us grow in faithfulness. Though we fail more than we succeed, raise us up each morning to follow after you again. Guide us today for your glory’s sake. Amen. #commonprayer #wearefaithfulonlybecauseheispatientwithus

Lord, just as your love knows no bounds and finds endless ways to reveal itself, so help us to express a gratitude too deep for words. Help us to learn to reveal our thanksgiving in the countless ways there are to love others, to provide for those in need, to serve where service is rare. Amen. #commonprayer #thanksgiving

"If someone's faith is authentic, it will be chosen in the naked, natural light of day, without bells or whistles or bands or devils. Church isn't a used car sale, and we shouldn’t be trying to close a deal, afraid of buyer's remorse setting in. We’re sharing with people the good news of a God who adores them and invites them to respond to that love through their lives." ― John Pavlovitz

"Lord, if we are to be afraid of anything, let it be the fear of not committing ourselves fully to you. Let us fear that the day will pass without our having lightened the load of another. Let us fear that someone will come looking for you and find only us... Teach us the fear that leads to wisdom : and the love that drives out fear." #commonprayer

"Forgiveness, requires that I go into the past, that I relive histories again and again until I am able to release all wrongs wrought by the frail humanity of others. The act of forgiveness, true Christ-based forgiveness, is an extension of love; it is seeing my accuser as a human, as one who acted from his own broken understanding of the world, who just did the best he knew how. Forgiveness, true godward forgiveness, is the extension of unmitigated grace, the adoption of the prayerful hope that our enemies might receive no suffering from their imputation of suffering; it is the hope that they find a better hope." ― Seth Haines #trueforgiveness

"Disturb us, Lord, when we are too well pleased with ourselves, when our dreams have come true because we have dreamed too little, when we arrive safely because we sailed too close to the shore. Disturb us, Lord, when with the abundance of things we possess, we have lost our thirst for the waters of life, having fallen in love with life, we have ceased to dream of eternity, and in our efforts to build a new earth, we have allowed our vision of the new heaven to dim. Disturb us, Lord, to dare more boldly, to venture on wider seas, where storms will show your mastery, where losing sight of land, we shall find the stars. We ask you to push back the horizon of our hopes, and to push us into the future in strength, courage, hope, and love. This we ask in the name of our Captain, who is Jesus Christ.” ― Francis Drake #disturbusLord #wellspring

When someone says that "life gets in the way," is it really life that got in the way? Did we really not know what was going to happen? Really? Did we not know what happens when we have unprotected sex when we're not ready to have a child? Or how were we to know the ramifications of taking that job that's demoralizing and sucks every bit of life and and joy and good from us? Sure, there are things that we have no or little control over, but a lot of times I hear this, it's for things we've done, results from choices we've made. And yet we blame 'life' or God or karma or someone else rather than the real cause—ourselves. 'Life' gets in the way, really, when we choose to abdicate our responsibilities, when we fall into patterns or into the conventions of society and culture, when we fail to take ownership of what we should know and how we should act. If you're walking blindly in life when you have eyes to see (but chose not to open them) and you bump into someone or hit a wall or go off a cliff, it is your fault. Open your eyes, see what's around you — see what's ahead of you. You have the freedom to choose, but understand that it's your choices, not 'life,' that's getting in the way of what God's wanting you to do. #lifehappens #ordoesit #creaturesofhabit #openyoureyes #ownership #ownit

"When we listen to words, not to shoot them down, but to open us up — Grace can walk in. When we listen to words not to indict them but to inform us, they can form us into a cup of understanding. This quenches the world’s parched places... When grace walks in — that doesn’t mean that Truth needs to walk out. It can mean that they both sit down and listen and learn and linger long enough to love no matter what." — Ann Voskamp #listen #thestoriesweliveby #beopen #graceandtrutharefriends #whatislove

"There is always something left to love...Child, when do you think is the time to love somebody the most? When they done good and made things easy for everybody? Well then, you ain't through learning — because that ain't the time at all. It's when he's at his lowest and can't believe in hisself 'cause the world done whipped him so! When you starts measuring somebody, measure him right, child, measure him right. Make sure you done taken into account what hills and valleys he come through before he got to wherever he is.” #araisininthesun #taghawaii #thestroiesweliveby #whatislove #measurehimright

Could it be that love was not meant To simply make us happy & content— To tide us over 'til its terms & conditions Were terminally met, But, truly, to shake us from our self centered ways, To inspire us to see past our mortal bounds, So to move us from death to life And not the other way around? #whatislove #dyingtolove #reallove

You're not necessarily going to find God by looking for love, even though God is love. It's simply because your vision of love doesn't look like God. In kind, you're never going to see your perfect mate who could be sitting right next to you because your mind (or some other part of your anatomy) is fixated on some unrealistic, unattainable ideal you've set up and parked on for life. And if you don't move from that incorrect mindset, you'll never really find what you were actually looking for. #whatislove #istillhaventfoundwhatimlookingfor #openminds #redefine

What's the use of art, of song, of thought, Of work and striving, Of beauty and sacrifice, Of love and grace and mercy -- What good is it all If all it does is maintain the mediocrity, And sustain us for another day of the same, And not affect us and grow us and change us, And ultimately bring us closer together In truth and awe and preparedness Of the greater story we must step into? #meaninglessness #arresteddevelopment #workingforwhat

Bad timing this weekend prevented me from helping at this year's Camp Agape. But how 'bad' could it be if it allowed me the time to connect with the awesome people at Bayview Chapel Assembly of God and, by chance, see my friend Lindsey deliver the message! Truth is, bad timing's not really so bad unless you close the door to what else God can do with that time.

Love Wins

Love wins when we decide to show love rather than show how moral and upright we only think we are. ‪#‎whatislove‬ ‪#‎lovewins‬

from Love Wins

No Sides

With love, there are no sides, no divisions, no adversaries, no ‘who’s right’ or ‘who’s wrong.’ There’s no condemnation, no justification, and no enmity. With love, there’s only grace, charity, reconciliation, and, of course, love.‪#‎whatislove‬

Peace Everlasting

We are meant to find peace
Whilst things crumble and fade,
Whilst people leave or change,
Whilst surrounded by chaos and darkness,
As we wander into the unknown.
For peace – enduring, incorruptible, and imperishable –
Peace in and under any and all circumstances,
Peace everlasting,
Is found in knowing the truth written on our heart
And knowing the one who wrote it there.
"In my wrestling and in my doubts
In my failures You won't walk out...
In the silence You won't let go
In the questions Your truth will hold...
You are the peace in my troubled sea."

No agony or blood,
If there was no sacrifice and suffering,
Would we ever know #whatislove?
